Abstract

The organic amine buffer, THAM, had a minimal favorable effect in correcting procaine amide intoxication as compared to the inorganic salt, molar sodium lactate. Hypotension and depressed myocardial contractility, however, appeared to be reversed in part with THAM; this is most likely a result of the alkalosis produced with increased responsiveness to endogenous catecholamines.
