Abstract

Phenylethylamine induced a depletion of norepinephrine both in rat heart and brain. After cumulative administration, the depletion occurred exponentially with a half-life of 46 min. (heart) and 48 min. (brain) respectively reaching two hours after the injection about 15% of the control value of norepinephrine in both tissues. Experiments on subcellular distribution showed that norepinephrine was preferentially released from the particulate fraction of both heart and brain.
