Abstract

Optical second harmonic generation has been observed in γ-irradiated and subsequently electrically poled silica glasses. The second-order nonlinear susceptibility, as well as the second harmonic intensity, increases with an increase in the γ-ray dose. The larger second harmonic intensity of γ-irradiated silica glasses may be related to the defects created by γ-irradiation.
