Abstract

Marked RNA and protein syntheses were observed in the body wall of fleshfly larvae after injecting β-ecdysone. The RNA synthesized in the first 4 hr after administration of β-ecdysone was shown to contain the necessary information for puparium formation. The RNA synthesized afterwards was not essential for puparium formation but for quinone tanning. The activity of DOPA decarboxylase started to increase 6 hr after administration of β-ecdysone.
