Abstract
Clinical studies with the fixed combination phytomedicine STW 5 (Iberogast®) show a significant improvement of symptoms in irritable bowel syndrome [1]. Mechanisms of action may be effects on intestinal motility, as has been shown in studies in ileal preparations of guinea pig, mouse and rat [2],[3], as well as a stimulation of mucosal secretion [4].
