Abstract

This research is Pre-Experimental Design with the form of One Group Pretest - Posttest Design to know whether there is influence of the treatment given to the subject under study. The problems discussed in this research are 1) how the learning outcomes before applied mathematics learning methods Socrates Contextual based on cognitive style in the second semester students Mathematics education program, 2) how the result of learning mathematics after applied learning method of socrates Contextual based on cognitive style in the second semester students Mathematics education program, and 3) whether the application of contextual teaching method based on cognitive style effectively applied in improving student's mathematics learning result second semester Mathematics education program. In this research, there are two variables that will be studied, that is contextual learning method based on cognitive style as X variable and mathematics learning result as Y variable. Population and sample in this research is all students of second semester Mathematics education program. The research instrument used is the test of learning result and observation guideline. The data found in this study were analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistic analysis using t test formula. Result of data analysis of test result of learning show that level of ability of student of second semester Mathematics education program before applying cognitive style contextual based learning method categorized very low with percentage 36,00% with average result score 50,2. Learning outcomes after application of contextual learning method based on cognitive style categorized high with percentage of 76.00% and average learning result score 86.92. The result of inferential statistical analysis using t test formula, it can be seen that the value of Sig (2-tailed = 0,000) <½ α (0,025), thus Ho is rejected and Ha accepted .. This shows that the application of contextual style based learning method cognitive effectiveness in improving mathematics learning outcomes.
