Garber, PhD in theater, is an interdisciplinary historian, teacher, theorist, and critic whose research and pedagogy integrate drama, dance, music, film, communication theory, and media. He teaches in the New York Greater Metropolitan Area, including at the State University of New York Purchase College, and lectures internationally. His recent projects include a study of tragicomedy, melodrama, and genre in early sound films that use the image of the “sad clown,” published in CINEJ Cinema Journal; and a forthcoming book about early twentieth-century American popular songs, exploring their histories as examples of complex collective authorship and how their meanings have changed within the context of works of literature, recordings, cinema, and theater.
