Abstract

The electronic structures of polycrystalline Y1−x Ca x Ba2Cu4O8 (x=0∼0.1), which were synthesized under high oxygen pressure, have been investigated using EELS (Electron Energy Loss Spectroscopy) including HREELS (High Resolution Electron Energy Loss Spectroscopy) and XPS (X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy). EELS and XPS spectra of Y1−x Ca x Ba2Cu4O8 (x=0.0, 0.05 and 0.1) show no significant difference among three samples, and these spectra are quite similar to the spectra of YBa2Cu3O7−y. In EELS spectra structures due to interband transition, plasmon excitation and core excitation are observed. The combination of EELS and XPS measurements enable us to obtain the information about the basic electronic structures of Y1−x Ca x Ba2Cu4O8 (x=0.0, 0.05 and 0.1).
