Abstract
The scientific study of EEG and MEG brain mapping of human pain started around 25 years ago. Few progresses have been made on the quantitative analyses of the EEG power frequency effect on the brain in both clinical pain and laboratory-controlled studies. It shall be noted that the tonic states of on-going pain are best to be described by EEG quantification. In contrast, a great deal of reports on phasic pain indicates the correlation of pain and late evoked potentials and analgesic modulations. Recent advances include 3D topographic dynamics and source generators. Great spatial resolution of EEG and MEG is extended to over 250 channels. This paper is finally expunged on the five levels of delineation (conception, analysis, organization, process, neurocomputation) for the systematic understanding of brain function in human pain using EEG/MEG brain mapping techniques.
