Abstract

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic disabling neurological disease affecting both physical and mental functions, resulting in impaired quality of life for patients and their caregivers. Although studies in Western countries have demonstrated that MS imposes considerable direct and indirect costs on healthcare systems and societies, empirical research in China is limited regarding the economic burden of MS. This study aimed to describe the direct and indirect costs due to MS in China, stratified by Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS) score.
