Abstract

Tobacco addiction is the leading preventable cause of death and disability in the US. A major 2019 UK RCT found e-cigarettes more effective than standard nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) in achieving abstinence. Very few cost-effectiveness studies have been performed regarding these interventions, and none in the US context. This study evaluated the cost-effectiveness of e-cigarettes with counselling compared to NRT with counselling as cessation aids for low-income smokers enrolled in Medicaid in California.
