Abstract

Many patients are prescribed antibiotics despite most infections being viral. Overprescribing of antibiotics results in antimicrobial resistance (AMR). C-reactive protein (CRP) point-of-care tests (POCT) reduce diagnostic uncertainty. The studies that evaluated the cost-effectiveness of CRP POCT for patients with respiratory tract infections (RTI) reported inconsistent findings. To inform the uptake of POCT, it is crucial to understand why such variability exists.
