Abstract

Nine Native American Indian women graduated with doctoral degrees from The Pennsylvania State University's American Indian Leadership Program (AILP), a project designed to prepare Indian leaders and researchers for educational service. The purpose of this exploratory microethnographic study was to develop profiles of the women's career paths by analyzing their decisions to seek the doctorate, graduate school experiences that contributed to the completion of their degrees, and stages of career development before and after receiving their terminal degrees.
