Abstract

This issue of JERHRE introduces a concept vital to successful research-trust-and shows that it can be variously earned and destroyed. An understanding of these aspects of trust and reflection on how they pertain to new instances of research can be of great value to students, professionals, and those who review the research of others. Also described in this issue are various aspects of the structure and process of ethics committees that have an important impact on the quality of their performance, and merit the attention of research administrators and ethics committee members. Last, but not least, the U.S. Bureau of Census has made available to the public its training module on confidentiality; this, in conjunction with other resources, can provide useful tutorials for investigators and ethics committee members.
