Abstract

Introduction. The article considers the educational activity of the UOC-KP in Western Ukraine in a certain period. The formation of the structure of Orthodox education in Ukraine is a new problem and has not yet been reflected in the scientific literature. The construction of the network of Orthodox educational institutions in a certain period was carried out by the decision of the sacred synods of the UOC-KP with the support of the diocesan administrations. Intensification of religious life in the western region of Ukraine contributed to the increase in the number of religious communities, and accordingly raised the issue of personnel. The increase in the number of Orthodox educational institutions was largely due to changes in the legislation of Ukraine. The structure of Orthodox spiritual education was based on the updated charter of theological schools adopted in 1991. and consisted of three levels of education: school, seminary, academy. The level of education directly depends on the teachers, who in the 90s of the last century were catastrophically lacking. Higher spiritual education in Western Ukraine until 2002 was provided in the only academy in this region in Lviv. The whole period from 1992 to 2018. Orthodox theological education was in a state of development, search and reform. Underfunding of educational institutions remained unresolved. The material base, with the exception of the Volyn Theological Academy, wanted the best. The purpose of the article is to show how the Orthodox education of the UOC-KP was formed and developed during 1992–2018. Research methods are based on the principles of concrete-historical approach or historicism, objectivity, comprehensiveness, as well as the use of methods – analysis and synthesis, historical-comparative, problemchronological. Results. It was found that the educational activity of the UOC-KP in Western Ukraine began to develop intensively after the celebration of the millennium of the Baptism of Rus-Ukraine. A historical analysis of the development of the UOC-KP education sector in Western Ukraine has been conducted. It was found that the first Orthodox educational institution in 1992. was the opening of the Volyn Theological Seminary, and at the end of the study period in 2013 the above institution was reorganized into the Volyn Theological Academy. Originality. The scientific novelty of the research results is that for the first time in historiography the educational activity of the UOC-KP in Western Ukraine for the whole period of its existence is comprehensively shown. Conclusions. Considering the educational activities of the UOC-KP in the period 1992–2018. in Western Ukraine, it was found that educational institutions arose where there was a numerical growth of religious organizations. The peculiarities of the formation and reform of Orthodox educational institutions of the UOC-KP have been established.
