(2012) 2(2), 101–103 Inadequacies in pain education have been reported in a variety of health professions across different countries. In recognition of these, the International Association of Pain has recently established an Education Initiatives Working Group and a new Pain Education Special Interest Group. Although pain education attracts a lot of attention and interest from different groups of healthcare professionals, the wide spectrum and complexity of pain education is quite often underappreciated. To provide novice pain educators with a deeper understanding of the educational aspect of pain, pain education can be appraised and defined in three dimensions: target, impact and strategy.
