Abstract

To augment education in limnology, universities can initiate joint activities with state or private colleges that enrich courses in limnology and provide stimulation for further research. One such effort, the uniting of interested students and teachers from nine colleges and universities for an intensive weekend of limnology, has been in progress in the State of New York for 3 years. Aside from the valuable associations developed among participating staff members and the information acquired about one or more lakes, the primary beneficiary of such an exposure to several investigators in the field, to new types of limnological and oceanographie equipment, and to stimulating ideas and techniques is the student.
