Abstract

The provision of nursing services and care to older people in South Australia in 1990 is in a state of flux. Recent major changes' in the structure of the nursing profession, in addition to recent major changes in the educational preparation of nurses throughout the country, have overshadowed the educational needs of nurses working in direct service provision for older people. South Australia, however, has a creditable record spanning many years in the provision of nursing education geared to meet the needs of nurses working with older people. This article describes the state of the art in education for gerontic nursing in South Australia.
