Education for Early Adolescents in Japan, U.S.: Cross-Cultural Observations

Abstract

In the summer of 1984, Professor Tadahiko Abiko initiated his study of America's middle school education programs. He spent more than 500 hours in 15 middle schools in four states. Along with Professor Paul George, who hosted him at the University of Florida, Abiko explored the similarities and differences in Japa nese and American education of the young adolescent. This article presents their findings.
