Lyeanda Berry and Polly Smith explore the obstacles and opportunities of the training and education requirements of practice nurses and their teams Practice nursing has evolved radically since its inception to be a multifaceted role that is key to the functioning of an effective general practice. During a review of the practice nurse workforce in a selection of general practices in York, the fundamentals of training and education of the workforce were highlighted as requiring attention. The nursing teams often struggle to achieve continued professional development and national recommendations for training and education are often not taken on board or supported. This article explores the obstacles and opportunities of the training and education requirements of practice nurses and their teams.
