Abstract

SummaryThe selected paper focused on 29 cases of bloodstream infections that occurred in 2 haemodialysis centres. Culture studies revealed that the same pathogens were present in the Waste Handling Option (WHO) of the machines used. The WHO is a device of Centry Cobe machines, for disposal of spent saline. The pathogens could enter directly or indirectly into the blood line tubing from this WHO. These incidents were halted by measures directed at the WHO attachment.
