Abstract

Editors' Note: Sarah Juliet Lauro, Steven Mollmann, and Wesley Kapp Welcome to our special fiction issue of Studies in the Fantastic, "Tales of the Fantastic." We are glad that you found us, especially those of you who may not have already been familiar with our journal. While we typically publish two annual issues of academic, peer-reviewed scholarship and other materials such as reviews and interviews, we felt compelled to put out a call for a special issue that would publish fiction. Our goal in producing a fiction issue was to make connections between scholars and creators. We wanted to provide our readership with some never before published works of fiction that might inspire scholarly work, and our hope is that the creators who may have newly discovered Studies stick around to check out our future issues. The response was overwhelming, and we are excited to share some of our favorite stories. There were many other excellent submissions that we hope will find homes elsewhere. While we don't yet know if "Tales of the Fantastic" may become a regular issue for us, or even make a debut as its own journal, we want to thank you for your support. We hope you enjoy this very special issue and that we have the opportunity to read more of your work (both scholarly and creative) in the near future. The editors wish to express their gratitude to our pool of editorial assistants who helped us stay organized and on track (listed below) and to the Dean of the College of Arts and Letters at the University of Tampa, David Gudelunas, for supporting this endeavor.
