Abstract

The year 2020 marked an important milestone for the polymer science community. In the century since Hermann Staudinger published his seminal paper “Über Polymerisation” in 1920, the field has witnessed tremendous breakthroughs in polymer chemistry, polymer physics, and polymer engineering. Emerging polymer materials have made significant impact on fundamental research as well as on practical applications. The discipline of polymer science has truly evolved to embrace its interdisciplinary nature. Here, at the Journal of Polymer Science (JPS), we also celebrated the journal's 75th anniversary. Our editors have selected seminal papers by leading pioneers that have appeared in the journal since its initial launch in 1946; do have a look at this anniversary virtual collection.[1] Professor Fu is a professor in the School of Materials Science and Engineering at Sun Yat-sen University, China. Jun earned his B.Sc. at Wuhan University and Ph.D. at the Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Science (CAS). He joined the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research in 2005 as a Visiting Scholar, and the Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School in 2007 as a Research Fellow. In 2010, he was appointed as a full professor in Ningbo Institute of Materials Technology and Engineering, CAS, and then moved to Sun Yat-sen University in 2019. His research focuses on the synthesis and engineering of polymer materials with biomimetic and bio-functional properties for applications as medical implants, wearable flexible sensors, and actuators. Please join us in welcoming Jun to the team!
