Abstract

Dear reader,Welcome to the April 2002 issue of Nanotechnology. This month we have two announcements to make.In response to a growing demand, this issue is the first to feature a new type of article. We have introduced the ‘Tutorial’ which will appeal to a wide audience, including undergraduate students and researchers working in any of the various fields of nanotechnology. Readers who are new to the topic under discussion will benefit from an expert's viewpoint and insight, andwe feel sure that these articles will be well received. In this issue Dr Christian Joachim (Director of Research (CNRS) at CEMES Toulouse)provides his view of the future of solid-state integrated electronics in a Tutorial entitled ‘Bonding more atoms together for a single molecule computer’. Dr Joachim is a leading expert on the use of single molecules as electronic devices. His work includes quantum chemistry modelling of molecules, synthesis of designer molecules and fabrication of single molecule devices and circuits. His Tutorial is freely available online to all; please visit www.iop.org/journals/nano.Tutorials can be based on an academic lecture or a presentation at a conference. They will normally be commissioned by the Editorial Board but we also welcome direct submissions to the journal. Please e-mail us at nano@iop.org for further details. Do not forget that you can submit multimedia attachments for free inclusion in the online version of the journal. We are also excited to announce the launch of Nanotechweb.org, a new portal for all nanotechnology internet resources. This global service for nano-scale science and technology will bring together academics, industrialists, investors and laymen interested in the subject. Nanotechweb.org offers a range of services including a search facility for the latest research articles, industry news, an events calendar as well as links to various internet resources and much more. All the material is fully searchable and the site is completely interactive. This means that you and your colleagues can send your own news and updates of research in progress and also add comments, links and other information. We have built Nanotechweb.org to provide a focal point for an expanding and uniquely multidisciplinary community. We will constantly be updating the content and adding functionality in order to build a site that we want you to look upon as your own. It is up to you to make Nanotechweb.org exactly what you want it to be, so why not visit it now?We are looking forward to hearing from you. Please send your views and comments to nano@iop.org.
