Abstract
It has been no secret that professional rivalries between the ‘traditional’ community nurse and the ‘new’ practice nurse intensified as the number of practice nurses increased in the first half of this decade. Despite major progress being made in this area, new research, ‘Nurses in practice: the role of the practice nurse in primary health care’ (1) from York University’s Social Policy Research Unit revealed that community nurse providers, commissioning agencies and FHSAs were concerned that the current GP management of practice nurses worked against a more strategic use of the whole primary care nursing resource.
