Abstract
The idea of creating the Letters first came up in Spring 2015, during my term as President of the IEEE Control Systems Society (CSS). Even if the possibility of launching a CSS online journal devoted to brief papers had been discussed in the past, it was only recently that two important issues came up, demanding an immediate and effective response.
