Abstract

A recognized standard of procedure and terminology has been accomplished for the conduct of egg laying contests and records of performance, with the result that the data can be better interpreted owing to the more uniform procedure. Could not the same principles be applied with equal advantage to the conduct of feeding and management experiments and the compilation of the data, or perhaps to poultry research work in general?Take for example egg production resulting from a test of two different rations. The trap nest records of 50 pullets may show a variation from 0 to 250 eggs per bird when the flock average may be around 170. The individual egg records may show from 1 to 10 birds in either or both groups that were obviously unable to function so far as egg production was concerned, regardless of the ration.
