Abstract

Dear Authors and Readers, During the year 2017, together with the Managing Editor Jörg Seiler we focused on two main targets: keeping the processing time for submitted manuscripts as short as possible, and restructuring the board of Associate Editors to address new developments and trends in mathematics. We are pleased that we succeeded in addressing both targets and that we managed to strengthen the position of Mathematische Nachrichten as an internationally respected journal in all fields of mathematics. Although we keep the general policy to obtain (whenever possible) two reports on each submitted manuscript, the average time from submission to decision has continuously decreased. For a fast and effective reviewing process, the online submission system ScholarOne is a useful tool. During the last year, there have been several changes in our board of Associate Editors. We are happy to welcome George Avalos (Lincoln), Lars Diening (Bielefeld), Dorothee Knees (Kassel), Marco Marletta (Cardiff), and Alexander Strohmaier (Leeds) as new Associate Editors for our journal. At the same time, we express our deep gratitude to Jochen Brüning (Berlin), Jürgen Eichhorn (Greifswald), Felix Finster (Regensburg), Herbert Gajewski (Berlin), Marinus A. Kaashoek (Amsterdam), Vladimir Maz’ya (Ohio), and Frank-Olme Speck (Lisboa) who left the editorial board at their own request, mostly due to time or age reasons. Our work would not be possible without our distinguished board of Associate Editors, and we express our gratitude towards our former and present editors for their support! The journal Mathematische Nachrichten is open to all fields of mathematics, including analysis in all aspects, algebra, algebraic geometry, number theory, differential geometry and stochastics. Traditionally, the focus of our journal lies on analysis and partial differential equations, and both this focus and the wide range of interests are reflected in the structure of our editorial board. We are glad to receive many manuscripts of high quality. This gives us both the necessity and the possibility to accept only manuscripts of high quality and of great originality. During the year 2017, we received about 500 manuscripts and could print 188 articles on 3050 pages in 18 issues. Finally, the Editors-in-Chief and Wiley-VCH would like to thank you, as author, reviewer or reader, for your faithfulness to our journal. The success of Mathematische Nachrichten would not be possible without your help and support, and we are looking forward to a further successful cooperation in the future. The Editors-in-Chief
