Abstract

This editorial introduces the Special Issue of the Journal of Applied Arts & Health (JAAH) focused solely on the life contribution of University Professor Emeritus Shaun McNiff. Spanning the 1970s to now, his contribution to the understanding of art-based research is outlined as prolific and instrumental in the development of the field. The editorial team acknowledges that the philosophical foundation of JAAH stems directly from McNiff’s premise that art is the evidence and communicates in a way that is unique, distinctive and primary. The contributors to this Special Issue are introduced and their individual articles foreshadowed. The editorial concludes with a light-hearted ode to McNiff.
