Abstract

The British Institute of Radiology traces its history back to the Roentgen Society founded in 1897, less than two years after the discovery of X rays. It can thus claim to be the first radiological society in the world. A distinctive feature of the Institute, one which it inherited from the Roentgen Society, is the multidisciplinary nature of its membership: diagnostic radiologists, radiotherapists, specialists in nuclear medicine, physicists, radiographers, engineers, radiobiologists and radiation chemists. This journal is the official journal of the Institute, and the Editors have always been concerned to publish scientific articles that reflected the wide-ranging interests of the membership.
