Abstract

With this issue, I’m pleased to turn the editorship of the Journal over to Professor Kon-Well Wang of the Mechanical Engineering Department at The Pennsylvania State University. Kon-Well has served the Design Engineering Division of ASME with distinction, as an associate editor of JVA and in key positions on the Technical Committee for Vibration and Sound. I’m confident that the Journal will thrive under his dynamic leadership. There are additional changes to the editorial board to report: Professors Michael Friswell and Jerry Ginsberg have completed their respective terms as associate editor. I’m grateful to them for their years of service and contributions to the successful operation of the Journal. Professor Jean-Claude Golinval of the University of Liege has agreed to serve as an associate editor, effective January 1. We welcome him to the board. I have enjoyed serving the community as editor for the past five years, during which time many changes have occurred, most notably with respect to electronic submission and review. Particular thanks are due to my journal assistant, Linda Conway, whose diligence and effectiveness made the transition to the electronic format relatively painless for me; to the associate editors who served during my term; and to the staff of ASME Publications, in New York. I’d especially like to recognize our recently retired production editor of many years, Ray Ramonas, and the entire Journal team for their efforts. As always, our gratitude and best wishes for a happy and healthy new year go to our authors and reviewers, without whom the Journal could not exist. It has been my pleasure to work with you all.Larry BergmanUrbana, ILNovember 18, 2004
