Abstract

Last week's editorial on Special Articles1 failed to consider the varieties that contain political elements, either overtly or by implication. These are the kind most apt to arouse readers on the other side of the political fence in question to admonish the editor to stick to science. The presence of Special Articles in the Journal for 20 years shows, however, that its days as a strictly scientific medical publication are long past. Indeed, in view of the continuing introduction of new specialties, and the unabated development of those that already exist, one may anticipate that articles of strictly scientific content . . .
