Editorial introductions

Abstract

Current Opinion in Endocrinology and Diabetes was launched in 1994, with Obesity added to the title in 2007. It is one of a successful series of review journals whose unique format is designed to provide a systematic and critical assessment of the literature as presented in the many primary journals. The fields of endocrinology and diabetes are divided into 12 sections that are reviewed once a year. Each section is assigned a Section Editor, a leading authority in the area, who identifies the most important topics at that time. Here we are pleased to introduce one of the Journal's Section Editors for this issue. SECTION EDITORS Anand VaidyaAnand VaidyaDr Anand Vaidya completed his medical education at Harvard Medical School, USA. He subsequently remained in Boston at Harvard Medical School for the remainder of his post-graduate training, where he completed an internship and residency in internal medicine, and a clinical and research fellowship in endocrinology and metabolism, both at the Brigham and Women's Hospital, USA. Dr Vaidya received a Masters degree in human clinical investigation from Harvard Medical School before joining the faculty of the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Hypertension at the Brigham and Women's Hospital, and since then has continued his career as a physician-scientist and educator there. Dr Vaidya is the co-Director of the Center for Adrenal Disorders in the Division. Using a multi-disciplinary approach, he cares for patients with all forms of adrenal disorders including common conditions such as adrenal insufficiency and adrenal nodules, as well as less common conditions, such as pheochromocytoma-paraganglioma syndromes and adrenal cortical carcinoma. Dr Vaidya's research focuses on adrenal disorders, and how adrenal hormones influence cardiovascular and metabolic health. He conducts primarily human clinical research involving patient-oriented and epidemiologic approaches. In addition, Dr Vaidya actively participates in educational and editorial activities: he is an Associate Editor for Metabolism and the Director of the e-Learning Initiative at Brigham and Women's Hospital. David HandelsmanDavid HandelsmanDavid Handelsman is Professor of Reproductive Endocrinology and Andrology, at the University of Sydney and inaugural Director of the ANZAC Research Institute and head of the Andrology Department, Concord Hospital, Australia. His interests in andrology (male reproductive health, medicine and biology) involve basic, clinical, translation and public health research centred on the physiology, pharmacology and toxicology of androgens. Recent research has focused on genetic mouse models of tissue-specific androgen action, steroid mass spectrometry, detection of hormonal doping in sports and the clinical pharmacology and trials of androgens.
