Abstract

In the accompanying article, Tyson et al retrospectively compare the 30-day preliminary surgical outcomes of patients undergoing single incision robotic cystectomy (SIRC) to a cohort for whom SIRC was attempted but converted to open surgery. Despite hypothesizing that patients undergoing SIRC would have lower analgesic requirements and an expedited recovery vs those who underwent open surgery, they found no significant difference in the median morphine milligram equivalents or length of stay. In addition, postoperative complications, postoperative opiate use, return of bowel function, and oncologic outcomes did not vary significantly between the cohorts.
