Abstract
The integration of technology into the practice of medicine has provided countless benefits, and urology has arguably embraced this synergistic relationship as much as any other discipline. From Benjamin Franklin fashioning silver catheters to treat his brother's urinary retention to the pioneers of transurethral surgery performing TURP while hunched over a resectoscope illuminated by incandescent lightbulb, urologists have continuously innovated to improve the care of their patients. Indeed, it was an urologist named Werner Forssmann who performed the world's first cardiac catheterization through a urinary catheter threaded through his antecubital vein – on himself!
