Abstract

This is a welcome report by an experienced group, reporting necessarily small numbers . Here, the addition of buccal graft appears to increase the historical urethroplasty success rate by as much as 30% for both 1 and 2 stage techniques. One-stage double buccal urethroplasty had a 20% failure rate (n = 9) and two-stage Johanson-type urethroplasty (with buccal graft placed in the first stage) had a 0% failure rate (n = 5) although they were subjectively higher-risk patients (poor tissue vascularity or previous failed urethroplasty).
