Abstract

This report is a retrospective review of nearly 14 000 patients who underwent shock wave lithotripsy in China with either the Dornier Compact S or the Huikang MZ-SWL-V. The efficiency quotient of the Dornier Compact S was greater at 83% than the 60.8% for the Huikang MZ-SWL-V. Furthermore, the efficiency quotient of the Dornier Compact S in the present study was much greater than that reported in Western studies in which similar Dornier lithotripters had an efficiency quotient of 50%-70%.1-5 The authors attribute this to the decreased skin-to-stone distance (SSD) in their patient population versus Western patients.
