Abstract

This article analyzed the proportions of manuscripts first- and senior-authored by women in 5 high impact urology journals. It also studied whether female senior authorship was predictive of a female first author. The authors hypothesized that women would represent less than the expected 25% of first authors and 9% of senior authors, based on percentages of women residents and attending in the field, respectively. They disproved their hypothesis and found that 26.3% of first authors and 14.5% of senior authors were women.
