Abstract

The investigators enrolled 90 men who had transperineal prostate biopsy (TPB) into 3 groups, including those having a periprostatic block, a periapical triangle block, and branch of perineal nerve (BPN) block. They had previously determined regions to instill 1% lidocaine from studies on adult male cadavers that were dissected to delineate the superficial and deep branches of the perineal nerve. 12-cores TPB was performed using an 18-gauge biopsy needle. The primary outcome was pain evaluation at: skin penetration, tissue penetration between the skin and the prostate capsule, prostate capsule penetration and gun firing using the 11-point visual analog scale (VAS).
