Abstract

Infectious complications following transrectal biopsy of the prostate occur in up to about 6% of cases.1 Morrison et al. sought to determine regional trends associated with infectious complications following transrectal biopsy of the prostate and identify associated patient factors using Market Scan, a large private health insurance database.2 Interestingly, the study found that the incidence of infectious complications, including emergency room visits and hospital admissions, exhibited geographic variation, and were relatively stable over time.
