Abstract

New techniques for the treatment of ureteropelvic junction obstruction (UPJO) and proximal ureteral strictures continue to evolve, including buccal ureteroplasty,1 appendiceal interposition,2 and even gonadal vein grafts.3 However, the Anderson-Hynes dismembered pyeloplasty remains the gold standard for repair of UPJO since it was first described in 1949 because of its durable outcomes and relative technical simplicity. While advances in minimally invasive surgical technique have improved procedural morbidity, the true technical principles of the pyeloplasty have remained the same for almost 80 years.
