Abstract

I agree with the message from this article that we should abandon the reflex habit of obtaining a routine 1-year follow-up evaluation in patients who have undergone uncomplicated Cohen ureteral reimplantation for primary vesicoureteral reflux, are clinically well, and who had an initial postoperative renal ultrasound scan that was normal or that clearly demonstrated no change in what was known preoperatively to be a nonobstructive collecting system dilation. The authors quote a cost of $1129 for a follow-up renal ultrasound scan and office visit that have a very low yield of detecting any problem.
