Abstract

This study presents a retrospective analysis of the changes in renal function after percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) performed at a large-volume facility in patients with pre-existing renal impairment. The authors observed a significant increase in Modification of Diet in Renal Disease-estimated glomerular filtration rate (GFR) for up to a 3-year period after surgery compared with the perioperative values. Perhaps the more important observation is the absence of renal deterioration after PCNL in patients with compromised renal function.
