Abstract

Unenhanced Computed Tomography (CT) is the gold standard for detection of urinary stones. An unenhanced phase is considered essential for a high-quality CT urogram. “Virtual unenhanced” CT scans (ie, CT scans with contrast that are computationally filtered to subtract out the contrast material) hold promise to reduce radiation exposure and expedite imaging studies. However, the technique has been limited by low sensitivity and poor ability to detect of small stones.
