The TP lies at the headwaters of many large Asian rivers (e.g., Ganges, Brahmaputra, Indus, Yangtze, Yellow, Mekong, Salween, Amu Darya, and Syr Darya) and serves as the main water supply for millions of inhabitants in downstream countries
