Abstract

Paul Lansdell has a first degree in metallurgy and a doctorate in trivalent chromium electrodeposition from Birmingham University, and achieved Chartered Engineer status in 1987. After early years in a foundry working with cast iron, stainless steels and nickel based corrosion resistant alloys, working as a shift metallurgist, then as laboratory supervisor overseeing all the routine sampling as well as the development work undertaken to improve manufacturing processes and products, he moved to Engelhard Industries, the precious metal refiners and manufacturers, now Metalor Technologies. From running the facility to recover gold, silver, palladium and platinum from printed circuitry out of early computer systems, he progressed to the division manufacturing the precious metal decorations for pottery, becoming assistant manager for the department.
