This issue of Problems of Economic Transition is devoted to macroeconomic problems of transition. Future issues will continue this theme by focusing on monopolies and antimonopoly policy and the banking system. Macroeconomic stabilization, as a key component of the transition process, is the primary issue of concern for multilateral financial institutions, especially the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and in many respects a reform issue upon which the Russian government has made considerable progress.
