Abstract

Mykola Gogol is a world-famous writer whose literary work and life is surrounded by secrets and riddles. Ukrainian origin inspired him to create a cycle of colourful, mystical, philosophical, in short, unique stories. The article reveals the history of writing such life-long editions of works by Mykola Gogol, such as ‘Arabesque’, ‘Myrhorod’, ‘Auditor’, ‘Dead Souls’ and ‘Selected Places for Correspondence with Friends’. The choice of these works is explained by their specific features as they were purchased, donated and currently are in the funds of the M.V. Gogol National Museum-Reserve.Gogol’s collection ‘Selected Places for Correspondence with Friends’ combines critically and optimistically the pathos, the view of the world from the outside and from the inside, the dialogical and monologic speech, the peculiarities of different genre forms and styles. All this gives the author the opportunity to create a work of general philosophical content that covers all the diversity of the spiritual being of mankind and sounds relevant in our time.The main goal was to attract attention and to introduce the creativity of the admirers of our genius countryman on the occasion of the 210th Anniversary of his birthday.
