Abstract

Multimedia editions are useful in illuminating the production and reception of early modern texts in different geographical, linguistic, and historical contexts. As Michael Best highlights, links to articles, book chapters, promptbooks, programme notes, director's notes, and film versions of plays open endless possibilities for research; but editors have the challenge of selecting relevant texts and providing notes. This article proposes an edition offering a selection of textual and audio-visual materials alongside editorial commentary, casting light on the production and reproduction of Maurice Tourneur's film version of Volpone (screenplay by Jules Romains) in 1940s France and the United States.
