Abstract
Few procedures in hand surgery are more perplexing than tendon repair and reconstruction. Repairs of both the extensor and flexor apparatus are technically challenging and, quite frequently, highly variable with respect to functional recovery. Acquisition of encompassing knowledge regarding decision making, surgical execution, and rehabilitation of these injuries is one of the most challenging and integral aspects of hand reconstruction. In the most recent addition to the American Society for Surgery of the Hand's Master Skills series, Edward Diao, MD, and Donald P. Mass, MD, have organized a definitive compendium, compiling the vast majority of available knowledge regarding the anatomy, pathoanatomy, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of tendon injuries in the hand and upper extremity.
